About
THE AUTHOR (last updated January 2, 2010)
Welcome to the busy fun life I share with my husband and young son. We live in the beautiful gulf island community of Gabriola, British Columbia, Canada.
We own and operate a hair salon and a business admin company, so between raising our son, gardening, and volunteering in our community, we stay very busy.
Please take time to explore all the topics on this blog. Originally it started as 4 topical blogs: Me & My PCOS, Me & My Obesity, and one public and one private Organique Gal blog. The summer of 2009 I embarked on a rigorous intense healing treatment plan with my Traditional Chinese Medicine Doctor, and slowly all of the things I am interested in melded into one quest – an organic natural life.
ORGANIC CREATIVITY
I grew up without TV, and was 23 years old when I watched my very first movie. Instead, I spent many happy hours of my childhood reading. My love for reading evolved into a love for spinning stories in my head as I stood at the sink doing dishes, or sorted laundry for our family of seven.
I always kept a journal, but they were so private and full of angst that I often destroyed them as soon as they were full. Now I desperately wish I had kept them because they would be excellent fodder for humorous tales. I have always found writing to be incredibly therapeutic, and I particularly love blogging because it’s such a great platform for getting your thoughts and ideas out into the wild wide world. The comments don’t hurt either.
I am also writing my first novel, either a memoir or a novel based on my life experiences, I haven’t decided yet.
ORGANIC LIFESTYLE
One day in early 2005 I woke up and realized everything about my life was toxic – my relationships, my diet, my body, my mind, my spirituality. I made the decision to change. This blog is my story of how I am transitioning from Toxic Gal to Organique Gal.
We lease a sunny south facing 5 acre property, and grow our own organic veggie garden. The first year we started our garden we harvested over 100 tomatoes, a 59 pound pumpkin, and enough cucumbers to keep my veggie-shy son happy. Our main gardening method is organic Lasagna Gardening.
We are also on a quest to eliminate toxins from our environment and lessen our family’s carbon footprint. It is a work in progress, for sure, but we are slowly making more and more positive changes each year.
Be sure to check out my yummy organic whole food vegetarian recipes.
ORGANIC WELLNESS
I love living green, and am doing everything I can to overcome some health challenges that include allergies (seasonal hay fever, carrots, soy, wheat, hazelnuts, and tetracycline), infertility (Poly-cystic Ovarian Syndrome aka PCOS), inflammation throughout my body (costrochondritis, weak SI joint, and degenerative spine), and morbid obesity. On August 11, 2009 our whole family started a healing cleanse regime under the care of a Traditional Chinese Medicine Doctor, and this blog details the ups and downs of this major undertaking.
A huge part of my wellness includes my spirituality. We follow an Organic Faith – back to the basics, stripping away all the traditions and rituals of organized religion. I can sum it up best this way:
36“Teacher, which is the greatest commandment in the Law?” 37Jesus replied: ” ‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.’ 38This is the first and greatest commandment. 39And the second is like it: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’ (Source: Matthew 22)
