Book Review: Watch Over Me by Christa Parrish
December 10, 2009
Last summer I had the opportunity to meet Christa Parrish in person. She was sweet and generous and one of the kindest people I’ve ever known. I’m honored to say she’s now a personal friend of mine. In addition, she’s a very talented author.
I just finished reading her latest book, Watch Over Me.
Her Rescue Might Be the Miracle They Needed
Things like this don’t happen in Beck County.
Deputy Benjamin Patil is the one to find the infant girl, hours old, abandoned in a field.
When the mother can’t be located, Ben and his wife, Abbi, seem like the perfect couple to serve as foster parents. But the newborn’s arrival opens old wounds for Abbi and shines a harsh light on how much Ben has changed since a devastating military tour.
Their marriage teeters on the brink and now they must choose to reclaim what they once had or lose each other forever.
Poignant and powerful, this novel confirms Christa Parrish as one of the most talented new voices to emerge in inspirational fiction. (Source: Christa Parrish)
Once I started reading it, I couldn’t put it down. I kept forgetting where I was (sitting in the car with my family), because from the instant I picked it up and started reading I was totally immersed in the lives and hearts and homes of her characters.
She has the ability to make you feel like you’re right there feeling her character’s pain and anguish and uncertainty. My heart and eyes welled up with emotion as the story line progressed, and she kept drawing me into their lives deeper and deeper until it almost felt like they were personal friends or neighbors.
The contrast between vegan pacifist Abbi and military officer Benjamin was startling and brilliant, and I found myself desperately wanting them to make their relationship work. As the reader, I loved how intimately involved I became in their life and personal struggles, and on more than one occasion I had the urge to pray for them.
I had a binge eating disorder for 17 years, and she also somehow managed to capture and express the shame, guilt, and self loathing that accompanies this horrible disease. It is a difficult issue, and she handled it delicately and with finesse.
What Christa has done with this book is just outstanding. She is a master story teller, and the imagery and emotion she evokes will leave you smitten with admiration for her skill. Well done!
I am eagerly awaiting her next literary gift, The Air We Breathe.
Say Goodbye to Illness by Dr. Nambudripad

If you haven’t read this book on NAET, you must! I’m on Chapter 6, and it’s amazing! This is the treatment my Chinese dr is going to use, so I’m very excited to get started. You can read more on her website as well. Also, my doctor’s website is a great resource.
I’m Reading the Book “Squeaky Green”…
July 26, 2008
… by Eric Ryan & Adam Lowry
I picked up this book at Safeway the other day… on sale, thank you very much… and I’m LOVING it! It goes through each room of the house, making recommendations on how to detoxify your living space, and provides info on how to make your entire house “green”.
I’m going to be working my way through it, one room (or area) at a time and will share the different things I’ve already done, am working on, and have yet to do… I am pleased to say that I’m already doing a lot of things right, but I do have some areas to improve on.
If anyone else has this book, feel free to join me…
“The method guide to detoxing your home” is the premise of the book, and but you really don’t have to use their products to implement their green suggestions. I’m not a method product promoter. Just excited to learn more about natural green ways to detox my home…
