“Intolerable Cruelty” starring George Clooney and Catherine Zeta-Jones

This was a funny (laugh out loud) type movie. The slap-stick humor was well orchestrated and I enjoyed it from beginning to end. I honestly wasn’t sure how it would end, and was surprised when it ended cause it was a bit anti-climatic and didn’t have a good “twist” to bring in all the loose ends. Entertaining enough though. Rating: PG13

“Something New” Starring Simon Blake and Sanaa Lathan

A great date movie that makes you think about prejudices in a slightly different light. Black girl falls in love with white boy. Highly recommended by Oprah (she did a rather amusing show about this movie) and I have to admit I enjoyed it too. Rating PG13

There's a Bluebird on my Shoulder…

October 25, 2006

This morning when I opened my front (and only) door, four bluebirds fluttered up into the tree outside my door. The bright flashes of brilliant blue in the midst of the gorgeous orange and yellow fall leaves on the ground and trees was a stunning way to start my day… Now I have the tune of “Zippidy Doo-Dah” going through my head… LOL

I’m also happy today because I found my brown tam! I searched high and low for it the other day when I was going to go on a walk with Brent and couldn’t find it anywhere! Last night, just as I was falling asleep, I suddenly remembered where it was! This morning I went and looked in the pocket of my jogging stroller, and sure enough, there it was! I was SO happy to find it cause it matches my favorite brown wool sweater. I felt quite smashing this morning in my fall clothes… I wore a brown jean skirt, a black v-neck shirt, my brown wool sweater and tam, and my rounded toe brown clarks with the buckles… I think I enjoyed my walk a little bit more than usual just because I found my tam… heehee… Really, it’s the simple joys in life that make me the happiest…

Today I’m feeling psyched about working on my essays. My tutor gave me some really great direction and I’m feeling almost inspired. Just need to make myself a nice breakfast (well, it’ll be more like brunch as it’s already 10 AM! LOL), turn on some lively music, open the windows to let the aromatic and brisk fall air blow through, and get down to business!

Getting sick… car shopping… essays…

October 24, 2006

This afternoon Brent and I went for a walk, and my throat started hurting a bit as we were starting out… by the time we got back to the car it was QUITE sore… Now my throat is really sore and I’m feeling achy, and I feel a headache coming on… UGH! I drank a cup of hot peppermint tea with honey, ate a handful of Vit C’s, and I’m going to have a nice hot bowl of chili for dinner… ugh… I hate being sick… Figures that it would happen THIS week, when I have SO much to get done…

When I get my student loan in a week, I need to buy a vehicle, cause Adena needs the van. I called a couple used car lots today, and stopped at one this afternoon to look at a 94 Saturn station wagon. I wasn’t too impressed, to be honest… it had those automatic seatbelts, which I HATE, the handle on the driver’s door was coming off, and there was a panel missing off the console on the passenger’s side… Apparently they had to replace the computer in it too, so that makes me think it’s probably not the only thing wrong with it… On the other hand, there was a very nice 92 Ford Explorer in mint condition, full loaded. It is $1000 more than the station wagon, but I think it would be a better investment, to be honest. It is a 6 cyclinder, so it will cost more in gas, and because it’s an SUV, will most likely be higher in insurance too… But I think it’s a vehicle that I could drive for quite a few years. The body and interior are in good enough shape that I would feel justified in putting money into it to keep it running, if necessary. So now I need to find someone to check it over, and hopefully they will hold it for me until my loan clears my account. In the meanwhile I’m going to keep shopping around. I really hate car shopping. I’m so worried I’m going to be taken for a ride (no pun intended hehe) because I’m a woman… The good thing about this lot is they provide a 3 month warranty on all big things, like engine, transmission, etc… Something to think about for sure…

Just so you aren’t wondering what happened to me… I won’t be posting much this week, and won’t be on instant messenger in the evenings cause I have to get some essays finished, and I’m also working an extra day this week (blah). Please send good writing vibes my way… And pray this sore throat doesn’t turn into a full blown sickness… ugh…
